Reuters, Amsterdam, August 18 – The Netherlands’ preliminary team for the European Championship qualifiers against Greece and Ireland has been called up, including Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen and new Tottenham Hotspur addition Micky van de Ven.

Following their poor performance as hosts of the Nations League finals in June, where they lost to both Croatia and Italy, coach Ronald Koeman announced the team on Friday, turning to younger players.

While the 21-year-old Maatsen is being called up for the first time, Van de Ven, who was acquired by Tottenham from VfL Wolfsburg, was a member of a preliminary group of 39 players chosen by previous coach Louis van Gaal ahead of last year’s World Cup but did not make the final squad.

Maatsen, a left defender who spent last season on loan at Burnley, has since returned to Chelsea and last weekend made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Liverpool.
