In September, Northern Ireland will play two Euro 2024 qualifying matches without Stuart Dallas.

Since injuring his leg in late April 2022, the utility player for Leeds United has not competed for either club or nation.

Dallas, 32, had a remote possibility of recovering for their qualifications in June, according to NI boss Michael O’Neill, but he acknowledged on Monday that Dallas is still not fit.

Steven Davis, the captain, and Corry Evans will both continue to be sidelined, he added.

While Evans appears to be some time away from returning after suffering cruciate ligament damage in January, midfielder Davis, 38, is still recuperating from an ACL surgery sustained while playing for Rangers in December 2022.

Steven and Stuart won’t participate in the games in September because they aren’t physically ready, according to O’Neill.

The seasoned defender Jonny Evans, who signed a short-term contract with Manchester United last month to play for the Premier League team during preseason, was also brought up to him.

“Obviously, with the circumstances at Manchester United, I was happy to see Jonny. On a longer-term basis, I am aware that it is still open at this time.
