Chelsea and Brighton have reached an agreement to pay a British record $115 million for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
On Friday, Liverpool and the 21-year-old Ecuadorian star reached a £111 million agreement.
However, Caicedo prefers Chelsea, and this summer, after having a string of bids turned down by Brighton, they have finally succeeded with one.
Chelsea will shatter the British record again in 2023 thanks to the payment, following the £107 million it spent in January for Argentine winger Enzo Fernandez.
Caicedo still has to get a medical after being left out of Brighton’s squad for their victory against Luton Town in their home opener.
The initial payment is said to be £100 million, and Brighton has also secured a sell-on option. Half of the additional payments are also considered to be easily attainable.
Manager Roberto de Zerbi stated in a press conference prior to the Seagulls’ match against Luton that he had “already forgotten” about Caicedo and added, “Bigger clubs can buy our players, but they can’t buy our soul or spirit.”
Caicedo made his Premier League debut in April 2022 after moving from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle to Brighton for £4 million in February 2021.
