Andre Onana, a goalkeeper from Cameroon, has joined Manchester United from Inter Milan on a five-year deal with an additional year option. United will reportedly pay 51 million euros ($83 million) for the 27-year-old plus 4 million ($6.5 m) in add-ons, according to Sky Sports.

After Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea’s 12-year contract with United expired in June, the club has been searching for a new first-choice keeper.

From Ajax Amsterdam, Onana joined Inter in July 2022 and soon rose to the top. He played a significant role in the campaign that saw Inter win the Italian Cup and Super Cup. In addition, they made it to the Champions League final. Onana rose to attention playing for Ajax in Europe’s premier club competition as a key member of the squad that advanced all the way to the 2019 semifinals before being shockingly eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur.

United earned a place in the Champions League by finishing third in the 2022–23 Premier League season.

Onana comented: “Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years.”
