Over the years, there has been a link between Real Madrid and tennis champions. Rafael Nadal, one of the best players in history, has won 22 Grand Slam championships over his illustrious career. Currently, it appears that another Madridista is headed for on-court superstardom: Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz won the US Open in 2022 and entered the Wimbledon final as the top player in the world. He faced Novak Djokovic, the most accomplished tennis player in history with 23 Grand Slam titles, and was widely regarded as the underdog.
Djokovic, who had previously won Wimbledon seven times, was attempting to tie Roger Federer’s record. He had a fantastic opening set against Alcaraz in the championship match. But the Spaniard pulled off a spectacular comeback. Alcaraz ultimately won the match 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, earning his first Wimbledon championship of his career. If he can keep going in this direction, he might become the next face of tennis.
Real Madrid welcomes the chance to congratulate the Madridista on his Wimbledon victory with the following tweets.
