The possibility of Kylian Mbappe leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer along with Lionel Messi was raised after he informed the club on Monday that he would not be exercising his option to extend his contract until 2025.
The 24-year-old French striker’s current contract, which has a one-year extension option, expires at the conclusion of the upcoming campaign.
The French champions could now sell him this summer rather than miss out on a windfall for one of the finest players in the world if he does not sign because if he does not, they run the chance of losing him for nothing in a year. After losing Messi to Inter Miami, Mbappe’s decision to forego his contract was revealed in a letter to the club and reported by the French sports newspaper L’Equipe. This is another setback for PSG.
Mbappe was given until July 31, 2023, to make a decision. A little over a year has passed since Mbappe defied Real Madrid by signing a surprise contract extension to stay at the Parc des Princes. Real would once more be the main candidate for him.
Kylian released the following statement: “The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them.”
