According to a source familiar with the talks, Al Ahli is prepared to pay Riyad Mahrez €100 million plus bonuses to leave Manchester City.
This week, a group from Saudi Arabia that included the club president Waleed Muaath was in London to talk about possible agreements with a number of players, including Mahrez.
The Algerian forward has two years left on his current contract with City, but sources claim he is dissatisfied with Pep Guardiola’s lack of playing time this year. Mahrez started 22 games in the Premier League during the 2022–23 season, however he sat on the sidelines for the majority of his team’s knockout matches in the Champions League. On February 22, he faced RB Leipzig in his final European start.
Al Ahli are thus optimistic that they can pull off a transfer coup and persuade Mahrez to go to the Middle East. N’Golo Kante is expected to join Karim Benzema as well as Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League after signing a contract with Al Ittihad on Monday.
Al Ahli has announced they will pay Mahrez €50m+ bonuses per season on a two-year contract with the option of a third, according to the involved source.
