After his historic Scudetto-winning goal for Napoli against Udinese on Thursday night, Victor Osimhen brushed off speculation that he would depart Naples despite growing interest from Manchester United.

The Nigerian forward, who has been precious for Luciano Spalletti’s team, made history that evening by surpassing Samuel Eto’o’s previous record of 21 goals in a single season to become the highest-scoring African player to play in Serie A. His goal in the 52nd minute that tied the game for the two teams also broke the previous record set by Eto’o, which stood at 21 goals.

Napoli needed to avoid losing in order to win the championship for the first time in 33 years after quickly establishing themselves at the top of the standings at the beginning of 2023.
