Bad news for the social world and beyond as Italian legend and former Italy and Chelsea striker has died aged 58 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Vialli received his initial pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2017 and a second one in 2021, not long after Italy’s victory at Euro 2020. In December, he resigned from his position with Italy, citing the need for medical treatment.

Vialli’s career

Before moving to Chelsea in 1996, Vialli played for Cremonese, Sampdoria, and Juventus. After Ruud Gullit left the Blues in 1998, he took over as player-manager. That year, he helped the team win the League Cup, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Before being fired early in the 2000–2001 season, Vialli decided to end his playing career at the conclusion of the 1998–1999 campaign in order to concentrate on management. Under the Italian’s leadership, Chelsea won the FA Cup and the Charity Shield in 2000.

Vialli had most recently served as the delegation’s leader while also making 59 appearances for Italy and scoring 16 goals in the process.
