Horrible stuff happened in Melbourne on Saturday. After supporters stormed the field and attacked a goalkeeper, Tom Glover, with a metal bin in chaotic scenes, the MELBOURNE A-League derby was called off. After 21 minutes, Melbourne City had a 1-0 advantage over rivals Victory when a flare was thrown onto the field from behind one of the goals.

When security and the referee failed to keep City goalkeeper Tom Glover safe, the crowd stormed on. Tom Glover was struck by the metal bucket, which resulted in him bleeding from the face. To assist their teammate, substitutes also ran in the direction of the scandalous flashpoint. For their safety, the referee and the players were led toward the AAMI Park tunnel.

Glover, required attention in the locker room for a cut and City confirmed that he may have concussed. After the initial suspension, which lasted for 30 minutes, Melbourne City announced that the game had been abandoned.
