Diogo Jota’s spouse, Rute Cardoso, has expressed her frustration with Premier League officials following Liverpool’s contentious defeat against Tottenham.
In a tumultuous match, Jurgen Klopp’s team found themselves reduced to nine players. Curtis Jones received a straight red card, while Jota received two yellow cards.
Furthermore, a legitimate goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed by the match officials. Rute did not hold back her feelings in the aftermath of the game, as evident from her social media activity.
She shared the PGMOL statement on her Instagram story following Joel Matip’s last-minute own goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, accompanying it with the caption: “Rigged game.”
Continuing her critique, she posted a video clip of Jota receiving his first yellow card during the same game, where Destiny Udogie appeared to go down with minimal or no contact.
She included a clown emoji in the clip, which had already been captioned with the words: “This was given as a yellow card.” as posted by an irate Liverpool fan page.
Jota and Rute, who welcomed a child together in 2021, relocated to England in 2017 when he transferred from Atletico Madrid to Wolves.
She frequently shares glimpses of their private life on social media and openly supports her husband on the field. Jota has made a significant impact since his £41 million move to Liverpool, scoring 44 goals and helping secure both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Unfortunately, Jota will be unavailable for Liverpool’s upcoming match against Brighton due to his red card.
Klopp expressed his dissatisfaction with the PGMOL’s handling of the situation, stating, “The two situations; the first I think is clear not a yellow. The second I didn’t see actually back but it’s not important. If the first is not a yellow then we still play with 10 men.”
He also commented on Curtis Jones’s red card: “Probably everybody here in the [press] room thinks it’s a clear red card, I see that different just because I played football and most of you probably didn’t.”
