Dimitar Berbatov urges Rasmus Hojlund to boost his goal ratio at Manchester United

Rasmus Hojlund joined Manchester United on a five-year contract after the club invested heavily to bring him in from Atalanta. The transfer deal involved an upfront payment of £62 million ($79 million), with an additional £8 million in performance-based bonuses, making the total potential cost £70 million ($87 million).

Since his arrival in Manchester, Hojlund’s performance has been closely scrutinized. In his debut season, the striker scored 16 goals in 42 appearances across various competitions. While these numbers are decent, Dimitar Berbatov believes Hojlund has the potential to achieve even more.

In an interview with Futbin, Berbatov stated, “Hojlund’s goal ratio must improve. He should be better and I think he can be better. He can do better but it comes down to concentration levels. Keeping his concentration levels high throughout all the games because he had good goal-scoring opportunities and didn’t score them.”

The Bulgarian emphasized that this is a crucial period in Hojlund’s career, where he must push himself harder. Although the journey won’t be easy, Berbatov highlighted that the effort will be worthwhile, especially with Ruud van Nistelrooy on the coaching staff.

“This is the moment where he has to work even harder which won’t be easy but it’ll be beneficial,” he said. “Especially now that United have Ruud van Nistelrooy in the coaching team. So now if you don’t take this opportunity to learn from one of the best who used to score goals for fun, you’re wasting your time. Speak to Ruud, ask questions, visit his home if you have to, be respectful, listen to him, learn, ask questions and try to add that to your game.”

Unfortunately, Hojlund’s progress has been stalled by a hamstring injury he picked up during United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal last month. This injury has kept him out for around six weeks, pushing his return to mid-September, likely after the international break.
