Phil Jones, a former Manchester United defender, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 32. After leaving Old Trafford at the end of the 2022-23 season, Jones has not played professionally in over two years, with his final appearance coming in a 3-0 win against Brentford in May 2022.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Jones expressed regret over his premature retirement but revealed he is pursuing a career in coaching, having already completed his A license. Jones joined Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 and made 229 appearances for the club, earning 27 caps for England.

Despite being highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson, who once called him “one of the best players we’ve ever had,” Jones’ career was heavily hampered by injuries. Nevertheless, he enjoyed success, including winning the Premier League title in 2013. Known for his unique defensive style and memorable facial expressions, Jones became a cult hero among United fans. He now looks forward to a future in coaching.
