Alvaro Morata has confirmed he will be ‘ready’ for the Serie A season opener this weekend after making his debut for Milan in the Trofeo Berlusconi.

The Spain international had to postpone his vacation until after celebrating his EURO 2024 victory in Germany, where he captained the team to a perfect tournament, winning every match.

Morata arrived in Italy for his new role with Milan this week and featured in their 3-1 victory over Monza in the pre-season Trofeo Berlusconi. He was introduced to fans along with new teammates Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal.

“It was fantastic, and I appreciate all the fans who came out in the heat to create a great atmosphere,” Morata told Mediaset.

“Though I’ve only had two training sessions with the team, I’m confident I’ll be ready and in good shape for the season’s start.”

The Serie A campaign kicks off for Milan at San Siro on Saturday evening against Torino, and Morata might be in the starting lineup.

In tonight’s game, goals came from Alexis Saelemaekers—thanks to a deflection off Pablo Mari—Luka Jovic, and Tijjani Reijnders, while Daniel Maldini scored for Monza.

“We need to focus on improving our defense. I saw Milan’s friendly matches in America and the squad’s quality is clear,” Morata noted.

Asked about Milan’s chances for the Scudetto, he replied, “Wearing this jersey demands competitiveness. There’s no guaranteed formula for success. No one enjoys facing Milan, so we must work harder to achieve our goals.”
