Cole Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, signing an initial eight-year contract with the west London club. After an impressive debut season, where he scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 games, Chelsea has extended his contract by an additional two years, keeping him at the club until 2033.
Palmer expressed his excitement about the new deal, stating, “I’m thrilled to sign this new contract. I achieved a lot in my first season here, and I hope to continue experiencing great things at Chelsea, both personally and in terms of bringing success and trophies to the club.”
Chelsea’s decision to invest up to £42.5 million ($54 million) in Palmer was initially seen as a gamble, given he had only made 19 Premier League appearances for Manchester City. However, Palmer proved his worth with an outstanding 2023-24 season, often being a key player for Mauricio Pochettino’s team and earning the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Palmer is currently enjoying a successful period, having made a significant impact during Euro 2024, including scoring in the final against Spain. He is also nominated for the Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.
As the new season approaches, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will face the challenge of fitting all of the club’s attacking talent into his lineup. However, Palmer’s spot in the team is secure, with the first match of the season set to be against his former club Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on August 18.
