Discussions between United and Fulham are ongoing, but the transfer saga for Scott McTominay has been frustrating for all parties. Despite their need for sales, Manchester United has turned down three bids for McTominay, holding out for a £30 million ($38m) package, according to the Independent.

The arrivals of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have left United needing to sell players to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules and to fund further transfers. They aim to sell five more players but have struggled to offload the likes of Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, and Victor Lindelof. Currently, a deal for McTominay seems unlikely, as Fulham’s offers have not met United’s valuation.

United has found it challenging to sell surplus players due to a slow market. This summer has seen less activity from the Saudi Pro League, and other Premier League clubs also face PSR considerations. Additionally, some of United’s first-team players have high wages that potential buyers are reluctant to match, a consequence of previous recruitment strategies.

With the transfer window open until August 30, there is still time for United and Fulham to reach an agreement. Should the Scotland international join Fulham, he would join the summer arrivals at Craven Cottage, including Ryan Sessegnon, Emile Smith Rowe, and Jorge Cuenca.
