Wout Weghorst, the 31-year-old Burnley forward, is planning for life after football by launching a holistic school in Holland. The former Manchester United player is part of a group called Wise, which aims to innovate the education system. Weghorst has been scouting locations in his hometown of Twente to establish the school, which will start with 70 students and focus on “future-proof education” with many lessons conducted outdoors.
Weghorst, who holds a “general and director co-ordination” role at Wise, is passionate about integrating a holistic approach in education. As a father of three, he believes in a system where children can discover their unique talents in a playful environment. “Every child is unique and pure, and being in good connection with your environment is important to achieve the goal,” he explained.
His motto is, “If you want something, everything is possible.” Weghorst, who scored twice in 31 appearances for Manchester United in 2023, spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim. He is expected to leave Burnley this summer, with Turkish clubs Trabzonspor and Besiktas showing interest.
