Hull City is considering a surprising move for veteran goalkeeper Vito Mannone, 12 seasons after his second loan spell with the Tigers. Currently playing for Lille in France, the 36-year-old Italian is being targeted to bolster Hull’s goalkeeping ranks following the departures of Ryan Allsop to Birmingham and Matt Ingram to Oxford.

Mannone, who has been used sparingly at Lille with only six appearances, could see this as an opportunity for more first-team football. The former Arsenal hopeful had two loan stints with Hull in 2010, playing 31 times. Despite his limited playtime, his Championship record is notable, conceding just 99 goals in 80 appearances.

Hull’s current goalkeeping options, Ivor Pandur, Timothee Lo-Tutala, and Harvey Cartwright, lack second-tier experience. Hull’s boss, Tim Walter, emphasized the need for reinforcements in various positions, especially after a 2-0 loss to Reading in a pre-season friendly. Mannone’s move could provide the necessary experience and stability ahead of their season opener against Bristol City.
