The uncertainty surrounding Mikel Merino’s future appears to be nearing a resolution, with reports from Mundo Deportivo indicating that the Spanish midfielder has opted for a move to Arsenal rather than Barcelona. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eager to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates, while Barcelona’s new coach Hansi Flick is also said to be a strong admirer.

Merino would represent a significant boost to Arsenal’s midfield, and his decision to join the Gunners highlights the progress the north London club has made under Arteta. The opportunity to compete in the Premier League, along with the prospect of a title challenge and Champions League football, likely adds to the appeal for Merino.

Last season, Merino appeared 45 times for Real Sociedad across all competitions, helping them to a fifth-place finish in LaLiga. He contributed eight goals and five assists during the campaign.

As the new season approaches, Merino is reportedly awaiting the finalization of a deal with Arsenal. He is believed to be a key midfield target for the club, with a potential transfer fee estimated at up to £30 million ($38 million).
