Manchester United have offered a trial to former Doncaster Rovers winger Tommy Rowe. The 35-year-old participated in a United XI’s 3-1 friendly victory over non-league Chester on Wednesday night. According to the Manchester Evening News, Rowe is being considered for an academy player-coach role at United, a hybrid position introduced in 2021.

This role has previously seen Paul McShane and Tom Huddlestone join United as player-coaches, aiding the under-21 side while also contributing as coaches. McShane, an academy graduate, made six appearances for the under-21s during the 2021/22 season and has now transitioned to a full-time coaching role.

Huddlestone, who scored once in 24 under-21 appearances since his 2022 arrival, left United earlier this summer to become Wigan’s assistant manager. Rowe, a Manchester native, is currently a free agent after leaving Doncaster in June. During his two spells with Rovers, he scored 45 goals and provided 29 assists in 267 appearances. His career also includes stints with Stockport, Peterborough, Wolves, and Bristol.
