Malang Sarr, the 25-year-old French defender, has joined Ligue 1 side RC Lens on a free transfer following the termination of his Chelsea contract. Sarr, who moved to Stamford Bridge in August 2020, made only eight Premier League appearances in four years.
After spending his first season on loan at Porto, he played 21 times under Thomas Tuchel but was loaned to Monaco just before Graham Potter’s tenure began. Upon Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival last summer, Sarr was relegated to training with the Under-21s and failed to make any appearances last season. Chelsea terminated his contract earlier this month. Throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, Sarr earned £20.8 million in wages.
As he aims to revive his career at Lens, Chelsea might also part ways with more players this summer. Trevoh Chalobah, notably left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the USA pre-season tour, is reportedly among those the club seeks to offload before the transfer window closes.
