The Albiceleste’s campaign in Paris has descended into further disarray as their training base was reportedly burglarized. Among the stolen items was a watch belonging to Thiago Almada. Following the incident, the Argentine delegation filed a police report in Lyon, according to the prosecutor’s office in Saint-Etienne.

Confirming the event, Mascherano said, “They went into training and robbed us, in the Olympic Games. We didn’t want to say anything after training, I don’t think it helps anything. But obviously, it’s a bit disagreeable that these kinds of things happen.”

Argentina’s Olympic campaign in Paris had already gotten off to a chaotic start when their opening match was suspended for nearly 75 minutes. Moroccan fans stormed the pitch and threw bottles to protest an equalizing goal by Cristian Medina in the 16th minute of added time. After a lengthy delay, play resumed, and the goal was disallowed for offside by VAR, allowing Morocco to maintain their lead during the remaining three minutes of play. Mascherano described the event as “a circus,” and the Argentine Football Federation lodged a formal protest with FIFA.

Argentina now aims to put this troubled start behind them and focus on their next game against Iraq on July 27, hoping to keep their chances of advancing to the knockout stages alive.
