Al-Ahli was a major spender in the Saudi Pro League last summer, adding high-profile players like Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Edouard Mendy, Roberto Firmino, and Franck Kessie from top European clubs. Despite these acquisitions, the team failed to demonstrate their potential on the pitch. Now, Al-Ahli is eyeing Brazilian stars Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison for new signings.
According to Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiyah [via The Daily Mail], Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle is seeking replacements for Saint-Maximin, who has been loaned out to Fenerbahce. The report indicates that Jesus and Richarlison are primary targets, but Jaissle is open to other options if these players do not meet his expectations.
Earlier this summer, Richarlison was rumored to be moving to Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal. However, he dismissed these rumors on Instagram [via The Daily Mail], stating, “I left my vacation and came to work to come back better ahead of next season. Regarding what’s been said in the media in the last few days, it’s fake news. I will NOT leave England ahead of next season.”
Both players were omitted from Brazil’s squad for the Copa America in the United States due to injury and fitness concerns. Nevertheless, they have resumed pre-season training with their clubs and aim to start the new season strongly.
