Aston Villa have successfully secured a £50 million transfer for Amadou Onana from Premier League rivals Everton. The 22-year-old, who moved to Goodison Park two years ago, had drawn interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain due to his impressive performances. However, Villa emerged victorious in the race for the talented deep-lying midfielder.
This acquisition signifies another bold move from Villa, who have been very proactive in the transfer market. Onana joins a list of new signings including Ross Barkley, Ian Maatsen, Jaden Philogene, Samuel Iling-Junior, Cameron Archer, and Enzo Barrenechea, as manager Unai Emery assembles a squad capable of competing in the Champions League.
Over the past two years, Onana has become one of the top players in his position and played every minute for Belgium during their Euro 2024 campaign.
Villa’s transfer activity appears far from over, with rumors suggesting a potential surprise move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. The team is set to embark on their pre-season tour of the United States, where they will face Columbus Crew, RB Leipzig, and Liga MX champions Club America.
