On Tuesday, France international Kylian Mbappe was unveiled to over 80,000 fans at Santiago Bernabeu. The 25-year-old described this move as his “dream” transfer. During the presentation, the former Paris Saint-Germain star discussed his decision to wear the No. 9 jersey, expressed admiration for Luka Modric, the current No. 10, and explained why he chose Real Madrid over other teams.
“We have Modric, I’m proud to be next to him in the dressing room, with the No. 9 and the No. 10. It’s not important, I don’t see what I have behind the shirt, I see the goal in front. I could play with any number.” Mbappe said.
Regarding his choice of Madrid, he added, “I was convinced that this moment would come. For me, Real was the only solution. I had other offers from other clubs but I always answered the same thing: if I leave Paris it’s for Real Madrid.”
Mbappe, one of the world’s best players, is now preparing to play for arguably the most successful team in history. With new teammate and club legend Luka Modric extending his contract until 2025, the Frenchman has shown great respect for the Croatian star and has joined an esteemed group of players who have worn the No. 9 shirt, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Ronaldo.
After a challenging Euro 2024 campaign, which saw him suffer a broken nose, Mbappe is set to begin his pre-season training as Real Madrid aims to defend their La Liga title and Champions League trophy.
