Chelsea are poised to lose their talented academy prospect Rio Ngumoha, 15, to Liverpool. Dubbed “the next Musiala,” Ngumoha is set to join the Reds after they broke their historic wage structure to secure his signature. The young talent has drawn comparisons to former Chelsea academy stars Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise.

Musiala, now 21, joined Bayern Munich in 2019 and has since emerged as one of the world’s finest young talents. Olise, who left Chelsea for Manchester City’s academy in 2016, recently completed a £49.5 million move to Bayern Munich. Liverpool, recognizing Ngumoha’s potential, are willing to exceed their academy wage cap of £ 50,000 a year. The 15-year-old winger made nine appearances for Chelsea’s U-18s last season and has also represented England’s U-16 side.

Liverpool’s academy rules, which include limitations on car ownership and phone use, aim to instill discipline and focus among their young players. With a strong track record of integrating academy products into the first team, Liverpool hopes Ngumoha will follow in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones.
