Jose Mourinho received a “crazy” reception from thousands of fans as Fenerbahce unveiled him as their new manager at a packed stadium. The ex-Manchester United and Chelsea boss, 61, was greeted with deafening chants and flares, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Earlier on Sunday, Mourinho and the club confirmed his appointment in a video message where he said, “Merhaba Fenerbahce fans. See you at Kadikoy and let’s start our journey together.” He arrived in Turkey after serving as a pundit for TNT Sports during Real Madrid’s Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund. Mourinho, who has been out of management since being sacked by Roma in January, agreed to a contract with Fenerbahce until 2026, with an option for an additional season.
During the introduction, the club presented him with a shirt labeled “The Special One,” reflecting his iconic status. Fans expressed their excitement online, with one saying, “Only a legend can have this effect,” and another commenting, “The stadium is crazy!” Mourinho, visibly awed, strolled across the pitch, absorbing the fervent welcome from the Turkish supporters.
