In January, Xavi announced he would resign as Barcelona’s manager at the season’s end, but he reversed this decision in April. However, recent reports indicated that president Joan Laporta might sack the former Barcelona midfielder, citing the club’s difficult economic situation and the inability to sign players as easily as “25 years ago.” Despite these rumors, the 44-year-old Xavi remains resolute, asserting he is not going anywhere.

He told reporters, “I’m interested in having the confidence of the president and [sporting director] Deco, and they transmit this to me. For me nothing has changed.”

“We’ll sit down with Laporta, we’re in contact, if we have to talk about something we’ll do it, but we’re like three weeks ago – there’s a project, we’ve competed and nothing changes. I understand the questions but I’m calm.”

When asked if anything had changed recently, he responded, “No, not at all. I have zero doubts that things can go well… I understand that next year we can compete better, I have ambition intact and with this news even more.”

Xavi led Barcelona to the La Liga title in the 2022-23 season, but they are currently 14 points behind their rivals, Real Madrid, and will finish this season without a trophy. However, Xavi has had success with the Catalan club, and retaining him could be beneficial in the long run.

Barcelona will conclude their La Liga season against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday evening, followed by a match against Sevilla on May 25. They aim to secure a second-place finish ahead of Girona.
