The Reds have acknowledged the allegations against them, yet they intend to challenge the ruling that has caused them to slide down the ranks of the English top-flight league, placing them in the bottom three—just one point away from safety with nine games remaining.

Forest has enlisted the services of a prominent sports lawyer to present their case, citing the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham in the summer of 2023 as a key aspect of their defense. They argue that the £47.5 million ($60m) deal, finalized after the June 30 deadline set by Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), contributed to their financial stability by yielding a higher transfer fee than initially offered by Brentford.

However, these assertions have been disregarded, resulting in a points deduction by the Premier League. While clubs are permitted to incur losses of up to £105m ($134m) over a three-year period, Forest’s accounts were constrained to £61m ($78m) due to spending two years of that window in the Championship.

Following their promotion to the Premier League after a 23-year absence, Forest embarked on significant spending, securing the signatures of 42 players. Their ambitious investments have now come back to haunt them, with Everton also facing a points deduction this season as they await the outcome of further charges against them.
