Alfred Gudmundsson has emerged as the top candidate for Juventus to potentially replace Federico Chiesa in the upcoming summer, should the Italian international opt not to extend his contract.
Chiesa’s future with Juventus remains uncertain as discussions regarding a contract renewal at the Allianz Stadium have yet to commence. His current deal in Turin expires in 2025, and if he declines a new agreement, Juventus will entertain offers for him during the summer transfer window.
According to reports from Tuttosport, Juventus finds it challenging to increase Chiesa’s annual salary of €5m, whereas the player’s representatives advocate for a salary of at least €7m per season, similar to Dusan Vlahovic, one of the team’s highest-paid players.
Formal negotiations are expected to begin before the next summer’s Euros. However, Gazzetta reports that Juventus has already earmarked Genoa’s Gudmundsson as a potential replacement for Chiesa.
In the recent January transfer window, Fiorentina’s €25m offer for Gudmundsson was rebuffed by Genoa, who have set an asking price of €40m for the 26-year-old forward.
