Following the collapse of loan deals with Newcastle United and Juventus this month, Kalvin Phillips has emerged as a target for Crystal Palace. Despite uncertainties surrounding the London club’s ability to secure the 28-year-old, who has yet to make a Premier League start this season, Eagles manager Roy Hodgson expressed interest in a potential loan arrangement that could benefit all parties involved.

Hodgson acknowledged the financial constraints and uncertainties surrounding the feasibility of signing Phillips but emphasized the midfielder’s quality, stating, “He’s a good player. If Kalvin Phillips is available, and if it’s a possibility for the club – considering financial restrictions – we would be happy to have him come to the club.”

While acknowledging the speculation that Manchester City might sell or loan Phillips, Hodgson remained pragmatic, noting, “A lot will have to happen before we find out where Kalvin Phillips is going to end up if he’s going to go anywhere.”

Since his £42 million move from Leeds United to Manchester City in 2022, Phillips has faced challenges in reaching the anticipated level of success. With his career in need of revival, especially to secure a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad, Phillips is seeking regular playing time. The January transfer window deadline is just over two weeks away, adding urgency to his situation.

Reportedly demanding assurances regarding playing time, Phillips has made only 10 appearances in all competitions this season. Potential suitors face a hurdle as City is said to be holding out for a club willing to cover the majority, if not all, of his £130,000-a-week salary along with a loan fee of around £5 million.

Before the closure of the winter transfer window at 11 pm on January 31, Phillips aims to finalize a transfer or loan deal. There is a possibility that he might play for the Cityzens in an FA Cup fourth-round match against Tottenham on January 26, followed by a home fixture in the Premier League against Burnley on deadline day.
