Luis Diaz’s father has reportedly been liberated following a confrontation that resulted in the demise of two individuals.

Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda were both abducted on October 29 in Barrancas, La Guajira, Colombia. The mother of the Liverpool forward was recently set free after a joint police and army operation successfully located the kidnappers.

Efforts to locate Diaz Sr had persisted even after Marulanda’s rescue, as she was not in his company at the time. Nevertheless, emerging reports indicate that Diaz’s father has been located after a substantial shootout occurred.

Local accounts from the La Guajira region suggest that Diaz Sr was released as a result of a police rescue mission that led to the deaths of two out of the four kidnappers.

It is suspected that the kidnappers were en route to Colombia’s border with Venezuela, potentially with the intention of smuggling him into the country.

This development is expected to bring an end to the harrowing ordeal faced by the family of the Liverpool forward.

The couple was believed to have been taken when unidentified armed motorcyclists located the vehicle they were in, intercepted it, and forcibly took them away.

Upon the discovery of Marulanda with the assistance of a police blockade, Director of Police General William Salamanca expressed his relief, stating, “We are pleased that you are free again, madam, I congratulate them [the authorities] for the reaction of all the police officers dedicated to the cause.”

While local media reports the discovery of Diaz Sr, there has been no official confirmation from local authorities as of yet.

A man who identified himself as Diaz Senior’s best friend informed a Colombian radio station of the circumstances, saying, “It was 5.30pm local time on Saturday. They had filled up with petrol and then went to a neighbourhood nearby to collect something from a relative of Celinis. There the captors arrived, four men on motorbikes.”

“They threatened them with weapons, made them get into the same vehicle and sped off with the other two on a motorbike tailing them. They headed for a rural area. The authorities were informed and there was a chase.”

When news of the incident initially surfaced, Liverpool issued a statement in the early hours of the morning, expressing, “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.”

“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”

It remains uncertain whether Diaz will participate in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
