Andre Onana extends helping hand to Manchester United, providing an escape route post £47 million move

A way out of Old Trafford may be extended to Andre Onana, who has had a dismal start to his Manchester United career.

Andre Onana Awful Start To Manchester United Career Leads To An Escape Plan

Andre Onana’s rocky start at Manchester United has opened the door to a potential exit from Old Trafford. Onana, who arrived at United in a £47 million transfer from Inter Milan during the summer, was brought in to replace the long-standing goalkeeper David De Gea.

However, his performances have left much to be desired, particularly in terms of his ball-handling skills and sweeping play.

These shortcomings have been evident in costly errors during United’s initial Champions League losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, as well as a high-profile mistake against Brentford in the last match.

Interestingly, there’s now a possibility that Onana might return to Inter Milan, his former club. The club’s CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, hasn’t ruled out the chance of the Italian giants reacquiring their former number-one goalkeeper.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport Festival, Marotta mentioned, “Anything can happen in football, even if those who do not always have positive results.”

He also emphasized the financial success of their earlier deal with Onana, who arrived as a free transfer from Ajax in 2022 and was subsequently sold for £47 million the following summer.

Nonetheless, a departure from Old Trafford appears improbable, considering the determination of United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, to bring his former Ajax protégé to the club.

ESPN reports, though, that Onana’s position in the team is under threat, with Ten Hag ready to bench him if his subpar performance continues.

United’s summer signings also include Altay Bayindir, a Turkish international and former Fenerbahçe goalkeeper, who was acquired for £4.3 million. He stands ready to seize an opportunity should it arise.

Initially, Ten Hag seemed committed to giving Onana every chance to succeed at United. He even selected Onana for the EFL Cup victory over Crystal Palace to help him adapt to the English game’s level, although he managed to keep just a third of clean sheets in the 11 matches he’s played so far.
