Kevin-Prince Boateng has criticized Erik ten Hag, suggesting that he lacks the necessary qualifications to lead Manchester United and accusing him of disrespecting Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, the Portuguese star, departed from Old Trafford in December following a Piers Morgan interview in which he criticized both the club and Ten Hag after losing his regular spot in the team.
After Ronaldo’s departure, United finished third in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup. Ronaldo is now playing in Saudi Arabia.
However, Ten Hag’s team has had a challenging start to the new season, losing four of their first seven Premier League games and finding themselves in mid-table.
Kevin-Prince Boateng, a former Barcelona, AC Milan, and Tottenham player, has asserted that Ten Hag is not suitable for the job. During an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five show, Boateng expressed his concerns, stating, “I think he’s got to go. From what I’m seeing, there’s no energy.”
He further criticized Ten Hag for his treatment of Ronaldo, stating, “What he did to Ronaldo and all that stuff, I don’t think he is on then level to coach Manchester United.”
‘The team is not the best, you have to be honest. They have some good players but they’re not the best. But still, there’s no fire.”
“You come to Old Trafford there’s no pace, no one gets angry, no one puts in passion and fire. And if my players don’t do that, as the coach, I have to do that.”
When questioned by Ferdinand about his comments regarding Ronaldo, Boateng emphasized, “He was the top scorer and he just kicked him out. He just went against the best player in the team, you don’t do that.
“You have to give him respect. There’s ways to let a player off and I think he chose the wrong way.”
In their recent 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace, United displayed a lackluster performance. They now need to regain their momentum as they prepare to host Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Their group stage campaign began with a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich, a result that was seen as somewhat fortunate for United.
