John Terry eyes investment opportunity in Chelsea: A fan’s bid to buy stake with tech magnate

Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, is open to outside investment, thus John Terry might soon become financially connected with the team where he already holds a legendary reputation.

John Terry Seeks To Invest In Chelsea

John Terry is considering purchasing a share in Chelsea in collaboration with a technology mogul. Todd Boehly, one of the current co-owners of the club, is open to external investments, and Terry, a club legend, is exploring this financial opportunity. According to a report from The Telegraph, Terry is part of a consortium aiming to acquire a 10% ownership stake in Stamford Bridge.

This ownership share would involve fan participation through PrimaryBid, an online technology and investment platform co-owned by Anand Sambasivan, who is both a Chelsea season-ticket holder and PrimaryBid’s CEO. Terry had previously explored the possibility of investing in Chelsea and was associated with the True Blue consortium, which considered purchasing the club following Roman Abramovich’s swift departure after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. However, Clearlake Capital and Boehly ultimately assumed control of the club. Clearlake currently holds approximately 60% of Chelsea, while Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss, and Mark Walter own the remaining equity.

It’s important to note that the Terry consortium is not the sole group interested in acquiring a stake in Chelsea. Other entities, including Ares Management based in the US, previously linked to Manchester United, are also exploring investment opportunities with the club.

Boehly is reportedly inclined towards an equity investment, with the mentioned 10% share potentially contributing to the club’s new stadium project and the revitalization of their Cobham training facility.

John Terry maintains his connection with Chelsea, actively participating in the club’s academy. Additionally, he has recently embarked on a solo tour titled ‘An Evening with John Terry,’ where he discusses his career with Chelsea, Aston Villa, and the England national team.

Terry did face criticism for charging £100 for autographs during these events. However, he has clarified that the proceeds from these evenings will be directed towards his charitable organization, the John Terry 26 Foundation.
