25 August (Reuters) After suffering an injury in Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Manchester United, manager Ange Postecoglou announced on Friday that James Maddison is anticipated to be fit for the match against Bournemouth.
Maddison finished the game on Saturday but did not practice until Friday. She was afterwards seen leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot.
“Madders were free to train today. He will be available for the time being, but we’ll see how he holds up,” Postecoglou told reporters before Saturday’s match.
“I believe it was the event when (Cristian) Romero was tackled by a block after being shot. After that, his ankle was a little uncomfortable, but the medical staff took care of him.
The 26-year-old midfielder has appeared in both of Spurs’ games this season. He transferred from Leicester City to Spurs in June for a rumoured sum of 40 million pounds ($50.48 million). According to his management, the player’s comeback was not hurried.
“There was little motivation to make him available. He had to do it. Although he could have worn moon boots, it was more prudent. He felt fantastic and could have gone to the gym yesterday.
After a 2-2 draw at Brentford and a 2-0 victory over Manchester United last weekend, Spurs have excelled in their first two games and are looking to improve on last season’s eighth-place finish under their new boss. But Postecoglou advises being careful.
“We’ve played two games, so I’m not making any assumptions just yet. I want to lay some groundwork for what this team should be, he added.
Positive results are always welcome, but we’re still very much in the early stages of developing this team and our style of play.
On Saturday, Spurs will travel to face Bournemouth, a team that has one point after two games.
