25 August (Reuters) Manager Juergen Klopp stated on Friday that Mohamed Salah is not for sale and that Liverpool has not received a bid from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
Al-Ittihad was reportedly making a second effort to sign the Egypt international on Thursday, according to British media, but Klopp maintained there would be no agreement.
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has scored 187 goals in 307 games, helping the team win the Premier League and Champions League.
Before Sunday’s match between Liverpool and Newcastle United, a team controlled by Saudi Arabia, at St. James’ Park, Klopp told reporters, “It’s always difficult to talk about media stories because there’s nothing to talk about from our point of view.”
“We have no offers; Mo Salah plays for Liverpool. For whatever we do, necessity is, has been, and always will be. There is nothing there; otherwise, the response would be “no.”
The 31-year-old Salah, who extended his contract by three years last year, is wholly dedicated to Liverpool, according to the German.
After Alexis Mac Allister was sent from the game against Bournemouth on Saturday, Liverpool was down to 10 men. After an appeal, his red card was later lifted. The manager said how greatly relieved he was.
“I wasn’t sure after the game so when I saw the pictures back and I was really sure that it’s not a red card,” said Klopp. “But that doesn’t mean immediately that our appeal will be successful.”
