18 August (Reuters) Liverpool announced on Friday that it has acquired Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart to a long-term deal.
Financial terms weren’t made public, but according to British media, Liverpool gave the 30-year-old with 50 Japan caps roughly 16 million pounds ($20.33 million).
Endo stated in a statement, “I’m really thrilled right now and I’m very eager to join a great team like Liverpool.
“This is my dream, and it feels fantastic. Playing in the Premier League and for one of the top teams in the world has always been a goal of mine. A dream of mine has come true.
I’m more of a defensive player and I play as the number six. I believe I can contribute to this team’s defense and will be well-organized in the center. I believe that is my responsibility.
After Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Endo is Liverpool’s third close-season addition as the club looks to replenish its depleted midfield as a result of departures.
